Olive Oil | It’s Doggone Good for Your Bull Terrier!

What is Olive Oil and Why Should I Give it to My Bull Terrier

Olive Oil is not just tasty and good for us humans, but it’s also good for our Bull Terriers. We all know that olive oil is the oil that comes from olives, but you can find a complete definition of Olive oil here. For us, olive oil is commonly used in cooking, salad dressings, marinades, cosmetics, soaps, oil lamps, and more. For our dogs, it can be used for brainpower, constipation, weight maintenance, skin and coat care, and more.

Olive Oil for Weight Loss

Even though most of us will never have to worry about our extremely hyper, I mean “energetic and passionate” Bull Terriers gaining weight, it may come up in our Bullies life later on. Olive oil can help your Bull Terrier lose weight. Olive oil helps grease the weight-loss engine in our Bullie’s stomach. The monounsaturated fats in olive oil encourage weight loss by breaking down the fat inside fat cells, getting rid of belly fat, and reducing insulin sensitivity. Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), which are considered a healthy dietary fat, as opposed to saturated fats and trans fats, which are considered unhealthy. MUFAs can help lower cholesterol and control insulin levels in the body.

“This Immune System I will Defend!”

Olive oil has high levels of antioxidants, including polyphenols, vitamin E, chlorophyll, and carotenoids -- olive oil is very effective at arming your Bull Terrier’s immune system so it can efficiently fight off disease. That's especially important as they transition from one season to another.

Prevent Premature Aging and Live FURRR-EVER!

Unfortunately, our Bull Terriers don't live forever like we want them to. Olive oil helps prevent free radical cell oxidation, which can lead to premature aging. Olive Oil works to help keep your Bullie looking and feeling like the little stud or Rockstar that they always were.

Brain Pow-Power!

The older our Bullie’s get, the more their brains and cognitive functioning decline, just like us. As much as I try to get my Bull Terriers to play Lumosity with me (to help brain training) they still are not biting. So, the next best thing is Olive oil, which can help prevent our Bull Terriers’ cognitive decline associated with aging. Olive oil can help keep your Bull Terrier sharp throughout his or her latter years. Olive oil combats premature aging and senility by increasing blood flow to their brain, which ultimately improves your Bullie’s cognitive functions. In other words, olive oil can literally improve the way your Bull Terrier’s brain functions. Olive oil also helps increase your Bullie’s longevity. Olive oil is a perfect supplement for enhancing cognition not only in aging Bull Terriers, but young Bullie pups can also experience enhanced cognition when you add olive oil into their diets. My Bull Terriers are almost 8 and 6 years old so I’ve been putting a little bit of olive oil in their food to help keep their minds at optimum level so they can live up to their Bull Terrier standards. I usually switch alternate it between coconut oil so that they get the benefits of both oils.

Energy Boost

Not like most of our Bull Terriers need an extra boost of energy, but as our Bull Terriers get older, they might need a little help. Olive oil can also help with circulation and breathing because it helps increase blood flow.

Olive Oil Simply Tastes Good

My dogs eat rocks, cactus, lizards, leaves, and anything else that crosses their path. So why do I care if their food tastes good when I know that they will eat anything? Because I care. I love my Bullies and I want them to live great lives. If adding a spoonful of olive oil to their food tastes good to them, I’ll gladly do it.

Olive Oil Helps with Constipation

Olive oil is a natural laxative and lubricant, so it is beneficial for different kinds of digestive problems. If your Bullie is suffering from constipation issues, olive oil can work wonders for his or her bowels. The recommended daily intake is 1 tablespoon of olive oil for dogs up to 50 pounds; for smaller dogs use 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of their body weight. However, be cautious when adding any oil to your Bullies’ food because depending on how backed up they are, it could potentially cause diarrhea.

Shiny and Healthy Coasts and Skin

Olive oil is full of polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that helps protect the body’s cells from damage. Certain polyphenols also have anti-inflammatory properties. Olive oil is often used to help treat dry itchy skin and can help improve the moisture and shine in a dog’s coat. Olive oil helps to rehydrate your Bull Terrier’s coat and protect his or her skin. Wet your dog’s hair and then rub it with olive oil. Let it sit for about 20-30 minutes, and then give your Bullie his usual bath to remove any excess oil that was not absorbed by the hair and skin.
