How do I make sure I have the appropriate size for my dog collar?

Measuring Tips for Paracord Dog Collars

It is Uber important to get the sizing right because these collars are not adjustable and simply cannot be resized. They are made to fit your dog specifically based on the measurements you give us.

The sizing here will relate to the INNER CIRCUMFERENCE of the collar so it's best to measure your dog's neck where you want the collar to sit. Please read specific instructions for the type or collar you are choosing below.

Here are tips on measuring your dog's neck for each of our collars. Please make sure to measure your dog's neck before purchasing a collar because our collars are specially made for your dog based on the measurements you give us and we cannot simply resize them.

1) Classic Paracord Dog Collar Measuring Tips

For the Classic Dog Collar, measure around your dog's neck where you want the dog collar to sit comfortably. Measuring around your dog's neck is the best way to get a perfect measurement.

The Classic Collar will measure in length from the inside when the collar buckled. If you lay the collar straight out to measure it, it will look like it is longer than requested, but this is only because it compensates for the thickness of the Paracord.

*IF YOU ARE MEASURING YOUR DOG'S OLD COLLAR- to get your measurements, please measure the INNER circumference of the Collar, with the Collar buckle closed, or snapped together.

2) Measuring Tips for the Paracord Dog Training Collar (aka Slip Collar or "Choke" Collar)

For the Dog Training Collar measure around your dog's neck (high on his or her neck) and then add 2-3 inches.

The Training Collar's measurement will include the length of the Stationary O-Rings because it will lay flat on your dog's neck and add length to the collar. The training collar's measurement will NOT include the Floating Live O-Ring. The collar will measure from the tip of the stationary O-Ring to the beginning of the Floating Live O-Ring.

*IF YOU ARE MEASURING YOUR DOG'S OLD COLLAR- to get your measurements, please measure the INNER circumference of the Collar, with the Collar buckle closed, or snapped together.

3) Measuring Tips for the Paracord Martingale Dog Collar (aka Limited Slip)

It's important to measure your dog's neck! Please make sure you measure your doggie's neck and provide us with the measurements so it fits perfectly for your dog.

For the Martingale Dog Collar, measure on the upper part of your dog's neck (this is where it will tighten during walks). This is where you will get the smallest closed size.

The sizing on the martingale collar will be a range from the smallest the collar goes in inner circumference (when fully tightened on your dog's neck) to the largest the collar expands to in inner circumference (when completely relaxed and loose). The martingale paracord collar has a range of 3". So for example, if you order a 14" collar, the collar will be 14" at it's smallest inner circumference (fully tightened) and 17" at it's largest inner

circumference (when completely relaxed and loose).

*Usually, they say to add 1-2 inches to this length to make sure you can fit the collar over your dog's head because in most cases, dogs' heads are a couple of inches bigger than their necks. But we have found that with the martingale chain, you can easily slip you collar over your dog's head without adding 2 inches and risking the collar being too big and slipping off. Most dogs' heads are a couple of inches bigger than their neck so this makes sense, but a lot of our customers have found that the collar is then too big.

---->For example, my dog's head measures 18" at the biggest part (around his ears). The upper part of his neck (the smallest measurement on his neck) measures 16.5" snug. I made his collar 16" inner circumference and it is still able to fit over his head because the martingale chain adds an extra 3 inches to the total inner circumference (when completely relaxed). You want to make sure that the O-Rings of the martingale collar never touch or it will defeat the purpose of the Martingale altogether.

*IF YOU ARE MEASURING YOUR DOG'S OLD COLLAR- to get your measurements, please measure the INNER circumference of the Collar, with the Collar buckle closed, or snapped together.

4) Measuring Tips for the Paracord Adjustable Dog Collar:

This collar is adjustable and will allow up to one (1) inch adjusting length. So for example, if you order a 14" collar, the tightest it will go is 14" and the loosest it will go is 15".

Please measure the diameter around your dog's neck where you want the dog collar to sit. Measuring around your dog's neck is the best way to get a perfect measurement.

The collar will measure in length from the inside of when the collar buckled. If you lay the collar straight out to measure it, it will look like it is longer than requested, but this is only because it compensates for the thickness of the Paracord.

How to Measure Your Dog's Neck for a Paracord Dog Collar When You Don't Have a Cloth Measuring Tape

*If you don’t have a cloth measuring tape,

  1. Take your dog's current, well-fitted collar and buckle it where it fits on your dog's neck (and consequently where you want the collar we are going to make you fit as well),

  2. Take your measuring tape and measure around the INSIDE of the collar. (If you do not have a soft measuring tape, you may use a piece of string and then hold that along a ruler or rigid measuring tape.) This measurement will tell me the interior circumference of your finished collar so that it feels comfortable around your pup’s neck.
